Year 2013 is at the end: market data for the first 3 quarters show a further increase in comparison with the same period of 2012, which has been a very good year. Robotic Industry therefore confirms all previous promises of an overall progress, even in presence critical economic situation in some key countries.

Arturo Baroncelli Elected As New IFR President

Joe Gemma the new Vice President

The IFR Executive Board elected Arturo Baroncelli, Comau Robotics, Italy, as the new IFR President last week in Seoul. At the General Assembly meeting Baroncelli thanked the former President, Dr. Shinsuke Sakakibara, Fanuc, for his dedicated work for the International Federation of Robotics during his two-year term of office.

In Tokyo, the representatives of robot suppliers re-elected Andreas Bauer, Director Marketing at the German robot manufacturer KUKA, as Chairman of the new founded "Robot Suppliers Committee".

"Robotics meets IT - Ubiquitous" in Seoul

Theme of the 2nd IFR Research Lectures

"2013 IFR Research Lecture" was organized by KIRIA (Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement), KITECH (Korea Institute of Industrial Technology) and CNU-RRI (Chonnam National University-Robot Research Initiative). 14 young researchers from 5 different countries participated in this year's IFR Research Lectures. Main topic of the 2013 IFR Research Lectures was "Robotics meets IT - Ubiquitous" and the program was composed of 14 academic lectures, 3 Laboratory tours, 4 Company tours and 2 World Heritage Culture tours.

Björn Weichbrodt passed away

The robotics community lost a pioneer

The IFR community is very sad about Björn Weichbrodt's passing away on 12 October in Stockholm. Björn was General Secretary of the IFR from 1994 to 2002. Since 2003 he has been delegate of the Swedish Robot Association SWIRA in the IFR General Assembly. Björn Weichbrodt was a pioneer of the robotics technology.
