42nd ISR 2011 in preparation

Preparations for the 42nd International Symposium on Robotics are now well underway.  RIA is looking forward to hosting this event next March 21-24, 2011, during the Automate Show and Conference in Chicago, Illinois, USA.  Automate is collocated with ProMat, North America's largest material handling and logistics show.

Parallel to the industry fair "AUTOMATICA 2010" the 41st ISR (International Symposium on Robotics) took place in Munich. This year on three days 46 sessions were held, more than 200 papers were presented.

Successful AUTOMATICA - Future of Robotics

"First signs of recovery some months ago expanded into a strong recovery", said Åke Lindqvist, IFR President. During the AUTOMATICA in Munich, there was a keen interest from the press in robotics, and the robot suppliers received a package of requests and a lot of order intakes. The participants of the IFR Round Table in Munich concluded that the robotics industry is back on track.

The robotics industry is getting back on track!

Sales slump in 2009 - Strong recovery in 2010 - Further growth expected in 2011 and 2012

The IFR Statistics Department presented the preliminary results of the annual statistics on Industrial Robots on Wednesday, 9 June 2010, in Munich at the AUTOMATICA. In 2009, with about 62,100 industrial robots shipped, the number of units sold worldwide slumped dramatically by about 45% compared to 2008, one of the most successful years. But in the first quarter 2010 the sales skyrocketed worldwide by more than 50% compared to the first quarter 2009.

On 8 June during the ISR Gala Dinner the IERA Award was presented to Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alexander Verl, Fraunhofer IPA for his project "Inline Measurement Robots - Robots Get the Precision for Car Body Inspection".

The first joint EURON/EUROP annual meeting

a success story

From March 10 to 12, 2010 more than 245 robotics researchers from industry and academia met in Donostia-San Sebastian, Spain, for the first joint EURON/EUROP annual meeting. The motivation for the European Robotics Technology Platform (EUROP) and the European Robotics Research Network (EURON) to organise the shared event was to improve cooperation of industry and academia and enhance technology transfer.
