Companies which align their procedures to the customer's benefit operate more efficiently and more successfully. However, in order to achieve this, the automation of the production processes is a basic prerequisite especially in today's globalized markets. Which was reason enough for Kawasaki Robotics and Vanderloo to enter into a strategic alliance pursuing the target of optimizing the production processes with reference to quantity, quality and timing.

The Dutch company VANDERLOO B.V. has been manufacturing machines for pallet production for 60 years. The German office was founded close to the city of Osnabrück in 2006 and has specialized on the development of special and customized solutions for the pallet machining industry. From the progressive automation in the core area of the company, an independent project planning division for robot applications has evolved. Here, the various applications are simulated using 3D programs in order to develop solutions for e.g. gripper tools. For this purpose, the partnership with Kawasaki Robotics was built; it focuses on the automation and optimization of palletizing and handling systems in form of small, flexible production cells.

The palletizing robot FD 50N is particularly suited for this purpose. With its carrying capacity of 50 kg and a radius of 2,100 mm, this robot is able to execute 2,400 palletizing cycles per hour while offering an extremely small footprint. These values make the FD 50N one of the fastest and most efficient robots in its class.

Individual customized configurations and special requests by the customers can be realized using software adaptations in an uncomplicated way at any time. A palletizing program supplies all necessary functions for carrying out the working cycles. The individual adaptation is made through setting the product and pallet size as well as selecting the appropriate pallet pattern and gripper. During the planning and design phase, great importance is attached to accurate engineering drawings and computer-aided simulations. For this purpose, the 3D simulation program Hi CAD by Messrs. ISD CAD is used with which the cell layout is planned. The robot kinematics is integrated in the 3D cell simulation. This is realized by Kawasaki's robot simulation program PC-Roset which calculates the cycle times and excludes potential obstacle contours right from the beginning.

Thanks to this planning process, 100% suitability and capableness of the cells in practical use are guaranteed. Efficient and systematic preliminary planning hand in hand with the use of standard components grant above-average planning and price reliability. The modular structure of these small palletizing cells offers crucial advantages over large complex automation lines. Step-by-step procedures allow for the smooth integration of the new automation modules without interfering with the running production.

In accordance with the Kaizen philosophy, which prefers the stepwise optimization of processes, one can tackle a problem exactly at the point where demand and necessity seem to be the most urgent.
