Prof. Alexander Verl new Chairman of IFR Research Committee
The members of the IFR Research Committee elected Prof. Alexander Verl as new Chairman of the Research Committee. He is succeeding Prof. Rolf-Dieter Schraft who retired. In 2005 Verl was appointed as a professor at the University of Stuttgart. Since 2006 he is also the head of Fraunhofer IPA in Stuttgart, Germany.
The Committee's responsibility is to develop and promote the International Symposium on Robotics ISR. They support the collection and selection of high quality papers.
The Committee is also involved in the annual Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award (IERA Award). This award is jointly sponsored with IEEE and promotes innovative products in robotics and automation that have already been commercialized.
Another new event are the IFR Research Lectures where young robot researchers from all over the world meet for one week. Prof. Verl organized the first IFR Research Lectures and welcomed 16 students at Fraunhofer IPA this year.
